In Brief

We love this car! Thanks to Elon Musk and the team at Tesla for delivering such an incredible machine.  In the first 3 months of 2013 the Model S outsold the Audi A8, BMW 7 series and  the Mercedes S Class.  Having been introduced to Norway in August 2013 it was subsequently the top selling car in that country the following month.  At MEC we are not surprised having followed it’s development since it was first announced.  This car is simply stunning in performance, appointment and is rated the safest car in the US obtaining a 5 star rating in all safety categories.  The single speed gearbox delivers 100% torque all the time giving sportscar like acceleration and performance – no jerky changes and virtually noiseless.

Tesla officially announced their presence in Australia at their launch on 9th December at the Sydney Star Casino.  The event saw the first nine ‘signature customer’ Model S vehicles delivered to their new owners.  Tesla have plans to roll out their Supercharger Stations connecting all major cities on the east coast by 2016.  “In 2015 we’ll look at rolling out a supercharger network connecting Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney,” announced Heath Walker, the Tesla Marketing and Communications Manager for Australia. “And then in 2016, we’ll connect all major cities on the east coast. So it’s fair to say we’re not mucking about.”  The stations will be placed about 200 kilometers apart and a half a charge will take about 20 minutes. Click here for the Tesla Supercharger Network.

With a ton of room – hatch with flat folding rear seat and extra cargo compartment where the engine would normally reside – this is a family car with everything.
