In Brief

Jaguar’s first electric car is a stunner. The all aluminium SUV is obviously designed to share a space with the Tesla Model X although it is somewhat smaller. At a base price in Australia of around $120,000 it is not a car for the masses but no doubt with the Jaguar name and pedigree it will appeal to a fair sized audience. Taking a leaf out of the Tesla book, the I-Pace has over the air updates – in our opinion a prerequisite for any future EVs.  It’s official range is 480kms but we suspect that is being a little generous for the 90kWh battery with somewhere between 420-450kms a more realistic expectation.  Jaguar has stated it will spend millions in charge station infrastructure in Australia (yes you read that correctly) which will be very welcome by prospective customers. It comes loaded with tech, over the air updates and has Artificial Intelligence algorithms that will ‘learn’ individual driving patterns and habits to tailor an individual’s preferences. It arrived in Australia at the end of 2018. At MEC we’ve loved this vehicle since its inception. The production version lives up to expectations.
