About My Electric Car
My Electric Car (MEC) was first set up in 2009 as an information site on electric vehicles. It highlights the various developments that are accelerating worldwide in the electric vehicle market. MEC’s first video was put up on Youtube in January 2010 – early days for EVs but an historical artefact in our now decade long presence as a community information resource.
Although Australian oriented, MEC sees value in giving visitors a global perspective in this rapidly evolving space and hopes to stimulate interest, discussion and the uptake of EV transport.
Many countries around the world have policy settings in place to encourage the take up of electric and hybrid vehicles for the obvious environmental, health, economic and strategic benefits. Rebates, tax incentives, free parking and other benefits are available to motorists.
Australian states have introduced EV incentives but some of these are now discontinued. It can be argued the EV landscape in Australia has changed significantly in recent years and EV price wars have made access to electric cars much more affordable. Buyers are encouraged to check incentives on a state level.
From a transport perspective MEC encourages the use of public transport but acknowledges that cars and individual transportation vehicles will be with us for some time. For this reason MEC sees the transition to electrically powered vehicles as necessary from health, environmental, economic and strategic perspectives.
The FAQ section on the main menu will deal with many of the questions people have about electric vehicles. This is a community orientated site and feedback is welcome.
