The new 2018 LEAF goes on sale in Japan in October 2017 and will be available in the United States, Canada and Europe in early 2018. The vehicle is a massive improvement on the original LEAF with longer range, power and advanced technology. The battery pack is 40 kWh which may be a disappointment as the vehicle will not match the range of the GM Bolt or Tesla Model 3. Still it will give owners a very comfortable 240kms and the base price comes in under $30K (US dollars). Nissan have said a larger 60 kWh battery pack will be available in the second half of 2018 for the 2019 model.

The LEAF comes with the sort of intelligent safety features that are pretty well expected in today’s crop of vehicles such as auto emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, a 360 degree camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors and rear cross traffic monitoring. The battery pack takes up the same space as in the original vehicle which demonstrates the huge advances in battery technology from the original car – a 67% increase in energy density from the 2010 original.
