In Brief

VW have given the e-Golf a makeover for 2017. It now sports a 35.8kWh battery pack (up from 24.2kWh) virtually doubling its range to 200kms. It’s also had 1 second shaved from it’s zero to 100kph time now at 9.6 seconds. The cockpit has gone digital and the car now incorporates forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking. It will also apply the brakes if the driver does not react to audio and visual warnings for pedestrians. The e-Golf looks pretty much like the regular gasoline version. It is currently on sale in Germany but no dates for release to the rest of the world are available at this time. It has impressive standard features such as a touch-screen navigation system, a backup camera, Park Distance Control, keyless access, push-button start, heated front seats, V-Tex leatherette seats. VW have re-positioned the company after the dieselgate scandal and are going full bore on an electric future. In 2019 it revised its plans and will increase the number of models across its brands to 70 full electric models. It also increased its planned output from 15 million to 22 million over the next ten years.
